Showtime at The Deco Theatre

The Cube Disability Arts Academy, based in Kingsthorpe, is a custom-built facility designed for Adults with Learning Disabilities who have a passion for Performing Arts. An Arts Award Centre where Students can enrol on Arts focused awards to gain nationally accredited qualifications headed by Trinity College London.

This innovative day centre gives Adults with the opportunity to take part in daily dance, drama and musical theatre sessions taught by trained tutors in their modern dance and drama studio. Their well-rehearsed scenes, dances and songs from musicals, films and plays are then showcased in public performances across the county and in an annual professional production at The Deco Theatre in Northampton.

This year’s production ‘Showtime’ took place on September 20th on the big stage at The Deco with a paying audience of over 500 people. DJ Matt Potter presented the production, and a team of stylists from Hensman’s Hairdresser’s also helped with show preparations as well as stage Make Up Artist Jenny Seymour.

A fast-paced medley of choreographed dance routines, acting scenes with intricate costume changes and complex sound and lighting proved The Cube Disability Arts Academy Students to be professional and skilled performers who are born to be on stage!

The success of the production was clear from the feedback from the audience who were ‘overwhelmed by the talent and professionalism’. BBC Voice UK star Lydia Lucy who was in the audience said “what a fantastic show! Every dance and scene was gripping, I didn’t want it to end!”

On 11th October The Cube Disability Arts Academy hosted an Awards evening to celebrate the Student’s performing arts achievements. Manager Kimberley Carey said, ‘our first production was a huge success, it exceeded all of our expectations and we are very proud of the hard work and commitment that the Students have shown, we can’t wait for the next show!’.
